Proposal could give new life to church in York

Union Lutheran Church on West Market Street is considering a proposal to redevelop part of its historic property into a shared-use space featuring affordable housing, nonprofit offices, and continued worship. Facing millions of dollars in needed repairs to its aging building, church leaders say the plan would allow them to remain active in the community while addressing housing needs. The proposal, which includes 43 affordable housing units, has drawn mixed reactions from residents and will be revisited by the York City Historical Architectural Review Board in January.
